Ashok Gelal Tweet your ‘apt-get’! Let Twitter keep track of whatever you install in Ubuntu

Hey folks! Time for another scripting fest. This time it is lot more useful than something like BSU search plugin. Three sleepless nights and then the outcome is 'tapt', apt that tweets. This script tweets all your 'apt-get' activities to your Twitter account. It can also do some activities which apt-get can't do such as multi-operations with a single command for example installing one application, removing… Continue

Ryan Taking out the trash

In the course of handling my EePC installation I create a bootable USB drive from whatever .iso I am attempting to complete the installation with. When I create this bootable drive it usually leaves my system with read-only files which I sometimes move to my trash folder. What this does, it leave root-level permission files stuck in my trash folder which cannot be simply deleted by using the "Empty Trash" button. What I hope to help people with is this, read-only (or unremoveable) files from th… Continue

Ryan Inkscape and Group Propaganda!

I just began using Inkscape vector graphic suite about a day ago. With it, I realized that I could make something more efficiently than OpenOffice.Org Draw and easily create graphical objects 100% easier than Gimp. Below is a screencap of the Inkscape UI. Continue

Ashok Gelal BSU Search Plugin for Firefox

Hey folks! I've just created a small BSU Search Plugin for Firefox. If you want to search anything inside boisestate.edu website, you don't need to open the site. Just search right inside from the Firefox search box. Look at the screenshot below. I've attached bsu.xml file. Put it inside /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/searchpluginsContinue

Trent Cutler April Updates!

As you may already know, April 24th is the release date for Ubuntu 8.04! We've got a lot of stuff to do before then! I want to put up some flyers around campus, letting people know about the release with our group address as well! there are Ubuntu users out there! Phil found me and joined our ranks recently. For this Saturday, I'd like to design the flyer, and write an article about Hardy Heron. (I submitted the opinion article to the arbiter, but I don't know if they'll publish it). Then we a… Continue

Ashok Gelal Yahoo! We need your attention!

One of my friends saw me playing with Compiz-Fusion effects in Ubuntu on Saturday and was pretty much impressed with Ubuntu when I detailed him some more advantages of using Linux OS. He came yesterday with his laptop to get Ubuntu installed. He was more than satisfied with all the things. He was very proud not to be called 'Pirate' any more. His friend had told him that he need to spend a lot of time tweaking Linux OS to work for him; installing library files, install each and every codecs manu… Continue

Ashok Gelal Install Linux without burning a CD/DVD

The first hurdle you come across when you think of using Linux is not 'to know how to install' it, but you will be confused 'whether to install or not'. The benefits of using Open Source Software are great. You hear a lot about them and you think to give it a go for a test. But when you know you have to burn the .ISO file into a CD/DVD, you start scratching your head. Why to waste a CD/DVD when you are not sure you will be using it or not? Also, for people like me, who like to tast… Continue
