I've been usining ubuntu for a while but have had to dual boot due to my intel chipset in my laptop to run certain programs that wine won't. I was wondering if any of you have an intel chipset and have been able to make them work better with linux
I think for the most part many of us have a dual boot as well for similar reasons I'm sure. I don't I have an intel chipset on my desktop, so I won't be much of any help. Ashok, is the one to get advice from. He's AWESOME. However he's pretty busy with school, but I'm sure he can give good direction to get help with.
pretty much games requiring DirectX. I attempted to run world of warcraft but never got it able to run and all the documentation I red only referred to Nvidea cards. I haven't tried to run any other games yet but I'm sure I'd have the same problem.
If Windows is often complained for BSOD, Linux is complained for Games. Free software do come at a price - compromise some of your favorite applications. But the logic is if WoW runs well in Windows with your chipset, it should run under Wine equally well; given the condition that Intel Chipset has been well installed in your Ubuntu. Wine official website confirms that WoW runs well under wine (its current rating is Gold for Gutsy and is rated Platinum for Hardy!). What's the actual problem with the program - is it not installing, is it crashing as soon as you start the game or the performance of the game is very low? Can I know which Intel chipset you have in your system? lspci | grep Intel will help you to find this. Also check if direct rendering is turned on (run the command glxinfo | grep render).
It gets through the startup movie and crashes before going to the EULA and login screen. I was able to make it past the EULA once but it crashed after that.
