BoiseUbuntu

So here's what you missed.
  • I showed the group how to make use of kwordquiz, a free flashcard program (available in synaptic).
  • Ryan, taught us how to utilize keyboard shortcuts, and tomboy notes.
  • Ashok had a whole bunch of awesome tweaks to share with everyone. I'm sure you'll find many of them on his newly announced website: Quicktweaks. I recommend you all add that to your google readers, you should all be using Google Reader for RSS and iGoogle (from a former meeting with Laren). Anyway, this time he showed the group how to customize GRUB with an image background, as well as make the matrix screen saver display other images.
I will be registering a real domain pretty soon, so please give your input on domain names. Ashok believes we can share some hosting space on his web company, which will give us some freedom. Maybe we can use some of the ubuntu ad revenue for a party or something. Yes that means we'll probably move away from ning... it is a cool site, but we think we can have the same functionality without the limitations.

We didn't make much progress on BroncOS as I would have liked. But I do need your input on survey questions, to find exactly what kind of people we'd like to direct the system to. Derek said he might be able to put it into the Arbiter if we get it sooner to him. I have invited all the members present to the google doc, so please make any changes. If any of the new members wish to be invited please send me a personal message with your google account.

As far as an outline for BroncOS, we don't have much. None of us have customized our own linux distribution before. There are a couple things I'll mention right now.

As far as customizing the package content of the Ubuntu CD, we're going to leave it alone for the most part except for the theme, and maybe GRUB. The reason being, is that we can just write a script that they can click on after it has installed, that will go through all of the processes and install the files that we choose.

We can have a couple different scripts, for some of the different types of computers. But for the most part I think the scripts will just enable the restricted contents, install the gmail notify, make gmail the default email application, and install all of the programs we discussed in the forum.

Also, the AITP computer repair fair has been cancelled. nothing against us.

I know that it is a lot, but please read it. I'd like to have input from each person. Thanks.

I forgot to mention that Derek interviewed us, and it sounds like he will be doing a BizTech feature on Ubuntu, while our Letter to the Editor will simultaneously be published.

Derek had some great questions, but he would love to hear your stories about why you switched.
